6ix9ine dissed 21 Savage by criticizing his citizenship status.
During a recent appearance on DJ Akademiks' livestream, 6ix9ine spoke about how he feels about Savage, while the media personality attempted to mend their differences.
“I’d really spit on that n***a if I ever see that n***a,” 6ix9ine said.
After Akademiks suggested that they weren’t that different from each other, 6ix9ine brought up Savage’s past immigration issues.
“I’m a US citizen, that’s what separates us,” 6ix9ine said. “I have a blue passport. 21 Savage not from here.”
In October 2023, Savage's attorney announced that the London-born but Atlanta-raised rapper had become a "lawful permanent resident of the United States." That proclamation followed Savage being detained by ICE in 2019 due to his expired U.K. visa.
At the time, Jay-Z and Roc Nation came to the rapper’s support to free him from custody, issuing a statement saying, “The arrest and detention of 21 Savage is an absolute travesty, his U visa petition has been pending for 4 years. In addition to being a successful recording artist, 21 deserves to be reunited with his children immediately, #Free21Savage.”
Speaking to Complex about the situation in 2019, attorney Alex Spiro, who has represented Jay-Z in the past, spoke about the then-still-ongoing case.
“We're looking at this issue from all facets,” Spiro said. “We're not going about this in one way alone. There are many decision makers who can authorize [21’s] release, his bond, and his opportunity to handle this situation at liberty. So we're going at each and every one of them, and we're not going to stop until is out.”
“This is a miscarriage of justice,” Spiro added. “The reality is these things happen all the time. It's only when there is a person of prominence or whom the public takes an interest in that the light is shined on these issues. We hope that once he is released, that we don't all forget about this, and we continue to monitor and think about the people who don't have the same resources he has.”
6ix9ine referencing Savage’s citizenship is the latest turn in their beef that seemingly stemmed from the former cooperating with authorities during his federal trial. In 2020, Savage dissed 6ix9ine at his 28th birthday party with a mannequin that wore a shirt featuring the animated rat from the latter’s “GOOBA” video.
Attached to the shirt was a message about snitching that read, “The wounds on this rat will never heal because when you squeal you know the deal. ALL RATS DIE SLOWLY!!!!!!! Death to the rat.”
The following year, Savage got into a heated argument with Wack 100 on Clubhouse about 6ix9ine. The rapper accused Wack of being “lame” for appearing with 6ix9ine on Akademiks’ Off The Record podcast, saying, “I just feel like a gangsta and a rat can’t agree on nothing in life. I don’t give a damn how right a n***a is.”
