Megan Thee Stallion says “of course” she’s competitive, though these days she’s more focused on dropping music “when I feel like it.”
Speaking during her recent appearance at the Taraji P. Henson-hosted I Am the Table Benefit Brunch, Megan, who released her “Whenever” track back in April, got candid with the audience when sharing her thoughts on competitiveness and charts-battling among artists.
“Of course I’m competitive, of course rap is competitive, and hell yeah I wanna win. I wanna be number one, for sure,” Megan said. “But that’s not why I do it. I felt like, at a point, to please my fans because I love that my fans are very competitive but I don’t wanna be tongue-wrestling on Twitter with you motherfuckers about charting. And y’all don’t even like my music. Y’all wanna bully other people because you think that the next girl is not doing as good as me, or you think that I’m not doing as good as the next girl.”
Megan continued, “But did you listen to any of my songs, for real? Do you hear what I’m saying? Do you like what I’m saying? Or you just wanna brag? So I felt like, damn, I gotta make music because I gotta be number one, I gotta chart, I gotta do this. Now I’m like, you know what? Nuh-uh. I’m gonna drop music when I feel like it. If you rock with me as Megan Thee Stallion and you a hottie, thank you so much.”
Earlier this month, Megan was named the 2025 Mental Health Champion of the Year by The Trevor Project, a suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization aimed at LGBTQ+ youth. In a statement shared at the time, Megan said she was “honored” to receive the award, adding that her goal “has always been to use my platform to help break stigmas around mental health.”
On the music side, the three-time Grammy winner last released a full-length in October 2024, when she gave her Megan album a reissue under the Act II banner. Its release was fittingly timed to land mere days ahead of Halloween, a holiday that’s well-documented as a personal favorite for Megan.
This Halloween, Megan is hosting a special Hottieween event in Texas, with proceeds supporting her Pete & Thomas Foundation.
