With her debut solo album, Ruby, Jennie is putting some serious numbers on the board, both here in the States and beyond. As previously reported, the album, marking the first full-length breakout from the BLACKPINK alum, is a star-stacked affair featuring top-tier guests Childish Gambino and Doechii, just to name a couple.
Released March 7 through Columbia and Odd Atelier, the album opened at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 chart, ultimately moving 56,000 equivalent album units for its inaugural week. An estimated 29,000 of those units were SEA, i.e. streaming equivalent units, amounting to what Billboard reported as just under 40 million on-demand streams for its opening week. Actual album sales, meanwhile, landed at 26,500.
In terms of physical options, Ruby was well-represented with multiple CD variants and boxed set editions for fans, not to mention two downloadable versions. While several such options are still available, the more expansive of the bunch, complete with a signed CD and Ruby-themed sweatshirt, has since sold out. Ahead of the album's release, the Hollywood Reporter, citing a statement from Columbia, said that Jennie fans’ enthusiasm had translated to more than 450,000 pre-orders globally.
Ruby also scored top 10 debuts in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, South Korea, New Zealand, the U.K, and elsewhere. By Monday, HitsDailyDouble had reported that the well-reviewed album had moved more than a million copies globally during its initial week of availability. While it wasn’t immediately clear whether that specific figure was focused on streaming or physical or a blend of both like the stats used by Billboard and Luminate here in the States, there’s no question that Jennie had an undeniably impressive debut week.
Following shows at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, Radio City Music Hall in New York, and the Inspire Arena in Seoul, Jennie will continue celebrating her solo debut with a performance at this year's Coachella. BLACKPINK, meanwhile, will also be on the road this summer.
