Cardi B told Gayle King she was pregnant before breaking the news to her parents, so says Cardi herself.

Wednesday, the first part of a new CBS Mornings interview with the Am I the Drama? artist was released, resulting in a swiftly headlined pregnancy announcement. During the conversation, Cardi also spoke about her relationship with boyfriend Stefon Diggs, saying he makes her feel “safe” and “confident,” as well as detailed her reasoning behind waiting to go public with the news that she will soon be a mother of four.

“I just was like, can I just say it on my own time?” Cardi told Gayle, as seen below. “I’m not hiding. On my own terms. Let me close some deals first. You don’t really wanna say right away that you’re pregnant. Let me see a couple more sonograms, let my baby be healthy.”

Cardi then revealed that she hadn’t yet told her parents about the pregnancy, noting that she still needed to inform them prior to the interview being released to the public.

“I have to tell them this week before this interview comes out,” she said. “I haven’t even told my parents. I haven’t told my parents.”

Asked by Gayle to elaborate on why, exactly, her parents hadn’t been told before their one-on-one, Cardi answered with a laugh.

“Because I’m scared of them,” she said. “I’m very scared of my parents.”

To be clear, Cardi’s parents “do like” Stefon.

“Everybody kept telling us to have fun and we had a little bit of too much fun, and now I’m here,” Cardi later joked. “We had too much fun. We’re very excited. We’re very happy.”

Deeper into the CBS Mornings conversation, Cardi said the baby is expected to arrive before her recently announced arena tour begins. As we reported earlier this week, the Little Miss Drama Tour is slated to kick off at the Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert next February. Immediately after she gives birth, Cardi told Gayle, she’s set to begin tour rehearsals.

“I don’t come from weak women,” she added.

But first, Am I the Drama? will arrive this Friday, Sept. 19. The album, boasting the HOV-sampling “Imaginary Playerz” plus features from Janet Jackson and more, comes seven years after Cardi's Grammy-winning debut, Invasion of Privacy.
