50 Cent hit the proverbial pause button on his consistently headlined social media commentary to pay a visit to Shreveport, Louisiana this week for a crucial city council meeting. As is well-documented, 50 has already established a substantial presence in the city with his G-Unit Films and Television production company, not to mention the Humor & Harmony Weekend festival. Tuesday’s council meeting sought to expand that presence by way of a lease on another building in the region, and successfully so.
Per a report from the Shreveport Times, council members unanimously voted in favor of a 30-year lease agreement between Stageworks Louisiana and 50’s G-Unit company which will see a “state-of-the-art sports and entertainment venue” being launched in the city soon. While the initial deal includes a lease of 30 years, it also includes the option to renew for 15 years.
“I didn’t even know I had to speak,” 50 joked when addressing council members on Tuesday, as seen in footage shared by KSLA News 12. “Somebody set me up. … This is exciting, man. I’m really just excited to be able to be here today. I’s important. This project is a legacy project for me. I don’t think I’ve done anything that directly affected as many people as this project will here in Shreveport and I’m just excited to get to it.”
Elaborating on how he sees the larger impact of his work in Shreveport, 50 made a point to again argue that “all roads lead to” the Louisiana city, a sentiment he once more echoed when celebrating the vote on Instagram.
“It’s going to be that way whether they like it or not because it’s the direction that we’re headed in,” he said. “Creatively, I haven’t had an opportunity to affect more people than I have at the moment because in film and television, there’s no age range. You know, hip-hop is a youth culture thing and I’m getting ready to turn 50 this year. 50 turns 50, 50 gotta do bigger things.”
Naturally, Tuesday’s meeting also saw one council member quoting 50’s Joe-featuring track “Big Rich Town.” See more up top.
As for that Instagrammery we so love to cover, 50 had more of that for us this week too.
