Trey Songz has settled a multi-million-dollar lawsuit alleging sexual assault at a Miami nightclub.
According to legal documents obtained by Billboard, the R&B singer reached a confidential deal just weeks before the case was set to go to trial. The plaintiff, Jauhara Jeffries, had accused Songz — born Tremaine Neverson — of sexually violating her on January 1, 2018, at E11even Miami.
“This court has been advised that the matter has been settled as to all parties and therefore, it is hereby ordered and adjudged that this case is dismissed,” Judge Antonio Arzola wrote on Tuesday, per Billboard. “The court reserves jurisdiction to enforce the settlement and to enter orders necessary to this enforcement.”
The details surrounding the settlement have not been revealed, but Jeffries’ attorney, Ariel Mitchell, confirmed to the outlet that “the matter has been resolved.”
Jeffries first sued Songz in 2020 for $10 million under the pseudonym Jane Doe. Mitchell said the original complaint was dismissed “without prejudice because of a technical error.” She refiled a civil assault and battery suit roughly a year later, seeking more than $20 million in damages.
The woman claimed she had met Songz at a 2017 New Year’s Eve party at Sean “Diddy” Combs’ home. Later that night, Jeffries and others accompanied Songz to E11even, where they sat at his private table. Jeffries alleged that she began dancing with Songz shortly after midnight, when he non-consensually penetrated her with his fingers. Jeffries claimed she wasn’t the only person Songz sexually assaulted that night. The plaintiff said she spoke to another woman who accused Songz of groping her buttocks while on the dance floor.
According to the complaint reviewed by NBC News, Jeffries and others left the nightclub in Songz’s vehicle. The plaintiff said that at one point during the ride, the visibly intoxicated defendant took his shirt off. She recalled pulling out her phone and hitting the record button, as she feared for her safety; however, when she rejected Songz’s demands to stop recording, he “instructed his driver to stop the vehicle” and “forcibly remove plaintiff.” Jeffries said she was pulled out of the car and dumped on the street before Songz “threatened and ridiculed” her.
The 40-year-old singer denied the allegations, while his legal team accused Jeffries’ attorney of attempting to bribe witnesses at E11even. Although Mitchell has denied the bribery claims, Billboard reports that she is still the subject of a Florida Bar Association investigation.
