Da Brat regrets that she didn't get to meet Michael Jackson when the late artist was alive, and revealed that she learned of the pop icob's death while behind bars.
The late King of Pop died in June 2009 when Da Brat was serving a three-and-a-half year sentence for aggravated assault. Although the rapper was released after serving 21 months, it was during her time in prison that Jackson died from an administered lethal dose of anesthetic propofol.
The "Funkdafied" artist named Jackson as someone she would've loved to have met on the September 3 episode of podcast We Sound Crazy.
"He's tattooed all on my whole leg," Da Brat said around the 50-minute mark of the episode. "When he died, I was in prison. And I almost beat a bitch ass when when they said he was dead."
The rapper was prematurely informed of Jackson's passing by a fellow inmate before the news broke. "I hadn't heard that he had passed yet," she continued. "And she had said he died. I about whooped that bitch ass and sent to the hole, 'cause I was like, 'Don't be saying that shit.'"
"I was so upset like, 'Oh man.' That hurt me closer than some family members passing away," Da Brat recalled.
She added that Jackson felt like "family" to longtime fans, and that she could've met him, as her longtime friend and producer, Jermaine Dupri, was dating Janet Jackson at the time.
"And then JD was dating Janet, so I was going to get my chance to finally meet him," Da Brat explained." And that that hurt me. And I couldn't be at the funeral or nothing. I felt like I wanted to say goodbye and at least be at the funeral."
"My family's there. Usher sang. I'm like, 'Oh my god.' And I was like, I ain't never ever getting in trouble again, 'cause I lost so many opportunities," she concluded.
Dupri dated Janet Jackson for seven years in the 2000s, and earlier this year, former So So Def artist Bow Wow shared his hopes for the exes to reconcile.
