Doja Cat's new 80s pop-inspired album is only weeks away, and the singer and rapper dished on the raunchy inspiration for her new music.

In an interview with The New York Times, Doja offered a rare insight into her personal life and how it ties back to her forthcoming album, Vie.

"As a daughter of a single mother taking care of two kids, romance is something that I feel is my life lesson because it's not something that was ever really there," she explained, noting that she wanted to "embody [love] in sort of a tongue-in-cheek way."

But the new album isn't just from her perspective, but that of her rumored partner Joseph Quinn, known for his role as Eddie Munson in Stranger Things. "I have floggers and whips all over my walls, but Vie is different because I’m talking about not only my own sexuality, but his.” The interviewer appears to have asked Doja about the relationship, to which she replied she's “just having fun” and “allowing things to happen.” She also said, in true Doja Cat fashion, that she both loves men and loves “bullying men.”

Quinn and Doja have been spotted together since 2024, but amid paparazzi shots of him on dates with other women, it's unknown the status of their relationship.

Elsewhere, she gives more sonic insight into the album, which has several songs produced by Jack Antonoff, the go-to pop producer of the 2020s. “I’m doing what I was perfecting in the beginning. I’m doing what I know I know how to do," she explained in the interview, referring to Planet Her and Hot Pink.

Doja Cat's Vie is set to be released on September 25. Listen to "Jealous Type" below.
