Metro Boomin is still mourning the loss of his mother, who tragically died over three years ago.
On Thursday (Aug. 21), the St. Louis artist took to X, writing, “Would give any and everything times 1000 to give My Mom a hug and have a conversation.”
In June 2022, reports surfaced that Metro’s mother, Leslie Wayne, had been killed by her husband—Metro’s stepfather—in an apparent murder-suicide in Georgia.
“My Mom was and still is my best friend in the universe, and anybody who really know me know I’ve always been a Momma’s boy my whole life,” Boomin wrote on his Instagram Story in August 2022. “This don’t even feel like real life no more; it’s like a nightmare that never ends, and starts over every time I wake up.”
Wayne was an early believer in her son’s music. On her birthday in 2019, the super-producer shouted out his mother, gifting her a purse in the passenger seat of a new car, and called her his “biggest inspiration.”
Last year, Metro honored her memory with $100,000 in donations to five women-centered nonprofits based in his native St. Louis.
“I’ve seen firsthand the work that goes into being a single mother. Mine was my inspiration and my hero,” Metro said in a statement at the time. “It’s very important to me to pay it forward, because I see the same resilience and dedication in the women these organizations work with.”
Metro dropped his latest offering, A Futuristic Summa, earlier this month, which boasts appearances from several Atlanta all-stars, including Travis Porter, Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka Flame, Young Dro, Young Thug, 2 Chainz, and 21 Savage.
