Earl Sweatshirt, Tyler, The Creator and Frank Ocean were all put on the map thanks to their California collective Odd Future — but it appears that Earl and Frank haven’t spoken in some time.
In a recent episode of The New York Times’ Popcast, Sweatshirt touched on his relationship with his former groupmates.
"I talk to Tyler more than I talk to Frank," he said. "I haven’t talked to Frank in a brick."
On Friday, Sweatshirt released his fifth solo album, Live Laugh Love, which features 11 songs and has a runtime of 25 minutes. As is often the case with his albums, he has few features, save for additional vocals from Erykah Badu on the last song, "Exhaust," and vocals from The Mandal Man on the opening track, "GSW vs Sac."
Earl announced the album nearly a week ago when he threw a listening party in Los Angeles.
Complex’s Eric Skelton was among those who attended the event, where guests — including Earl’s good friend Zack Fox — were treated to Live, Laugh, Love-inspired cocktails and received copies of a zine with contributions by Steven Yeun, Vince Staples, Donald Glover, Dave Chappelle, and Earl’s partner, Aida Osman.
Last year, Earl and Tyler reunited at Coachella, surprising fans with performances of "AssMilk" from Tyler's 2009 album, Bastard, and "Rusty" from his 2013 album, Wolf.
"Earl muthafuckin' Sweatshirt!" Tyler yelled, per HipHopDX. “My muthafuckin' brother. I love this guy so fucking much."
Earl responded, "Tyler, the fucking Creator, man. Look at the biggest show on Earth."
