During his interview with DJ Akademiks, the artist formerly known as Kanye West said, while dressed in a black Ku Klux Klan-style robe and hood, that Frank Ocean's career is "over."
At one point in the interview, in which he also wore a Sean John t-shirt and swastika chain, Ye declared himself the best living artist and specifically tore down Frank Ocean, whom he has collaborated with multiple times. "I make music better... No one make music that's nowhere as near as good as music," he told Akademiks. "When I made 'Moon,' it basically ended Frank Ocean's [career]. He ain't have a song since then!"
He's referring here to his 2021 track "Moon," which features Kid Cudi and Don Toliver. The song appeared on his album Donda. "I heard it, I was like, 'Oh this n***a's never gonna be able to make another album again,'" he said. "Any genre of music that anyone has, I make a better version of it. I'm ten times stronger at music than anyone living."
It's been five years since Frank Ocean dropped new material, while his last studio album, the indelible Blonde, was released in 2016. However, a snippet of unreleased music from him appeared in a vlog uploaded by UFC fighter Payton Talbott, who he supported by attending his fight at UFC 311 in January. Pharrell teased last year that Ocean has been "cooking" up new music. It was also confirmed in January that the elusive singer-songwriter has tapped rising star David Jonsson for his directorial debut, which began production in Mexico City earlier this year.
Ye, meanwhile, has been touting Nazi rhetoric on social media for months and recently dropped a self-released project that failed to make much of an impact.
