During a recent Twitch stream, rapper BigXthaPlug addressed his arrest in Dallas, which unfolded on the day he dropped his latest album, I Hope You're Happy.
As seen in the clip below, which was shared via his TikTok account, BigXthaPlug said he was told that he was in the police system as a gang member. "So, it’s either going to go two ways," he recalled. "We can either take you straight to jail right now, or you can come with us to the headquarters, [and] we can ask you a couple of questions, and we’ll let you go. We just need to see if you’re a gang member or not. I said, 'Okay, bet."
He was arrested for marijuana possession and unlawful firearm possession, and ultimately spent a night in Dallas County jail.
"I go down to the headquarters. We're choppin' it up. They talk to me for like four hours. And they didn’t do nothing but play my music," he continued. "They played ‘Safehouse.' As soon as the beat started… I said, ‘Bruh, like y’all wanted to take me to jail ‘cause, like, what the fuck? Everything y’all have asked from me, I’ve had something for it, so what the fuck? Y’all just tryna take me to jail.'"
He grew increasingly frustrated with the experience and said that the investigator talking to him gave him the cold shoulder. "I'm like, 'Man, turn that shit off... Y'all might as well go ahead and take me to jail,'" he said. The following day, he was released on $5,000 bond.
As reported by CBS News, his attorney, Valerie Baston, said that the rapper's legal team intends to make sure that the two charges remain misdemeanors and aren't upgraded to felonies.
"We're going to wait to see the affidavit," said Baston. "But, we're going to work vigorously for our client because it just is what it is. It's two misdemeanors, and people are trying to make it a felony."
The arrest came the day he dropped his new album, I Hope You're Happy. The 26-year-old rapper was expected to show up for an album release party later that day. The album is more a country-oriented affair, and features collaborations with Jelly Roll, Shaboozey, and Luke Combs, among others.
