President Donald Trump is reportedly considering commuting Diddy’s sentence.
According to TMZ, a high-ranking White House official source told the outlet that the president could commute Diddy’s 50-month prison sentence as early as this week.
The source adds that Trump is supposedly “vacillating” on the decision, and while some White House staff are urging him not to move forward, the insider notes, “Trump will do what he wants.”
Diddy has served 13 months for violating the Mann Act and could be released in about two years without credit, but a commutation would override that entirely.
After Diddy’s sentencing earlier this month, TMZ learned that his legal team reportedly contacted a senior White House official close to Trump to discuss the possibility of a commutation or pardon. Days later, Trump acknowledged publicly that he was aware of the request.
"I have had a lot of people ask me for pardons," Trump said on Oct. 6. "I call him Puff Daddy, he has asked me for a pardon."
Diddy had previously endorsed Joe Biden during his 2020 campaign.
Earlier today, the 55-year-old Bad Boy Records founder had officially filed an appeal in Manhattan federal court to challenge both the verdict and his prison sentence. You can read more about that here.
Barring any intervention from President Trump and any changes to Diddy's conviction, the mogul would face five years of supervised release after prison, including mandatory drug, alcohol, and mental health treatment, a domestic violence intervention program, unrestricted searches based on reasonable suspicion, and a ban on firearm possession, among other conditions.
The news comes shortly after Trump commuted former Congressman George Santos’ sentence last Friday (Oct. 18). Santos had been serving an 87-month sentence for wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.
