An apparently accidental trip to Tunisia takes center stage in the latest TikTok-documented saga to crash into headlines.
The pair of American tourists in question, as you’ve no doubt already been informed by now, say they initially intended to fly from Rome, Italy to Nice, France. Instead, the travelers were surprised to found out once aboard that they were actually en route to Tunis, the capital of Tunisia, i.e., not to Nice, in France.
Below, we broke down what the hell happened, or at least what’s been said on TikTok to have happened.
Tourists aiming for Nice, France accidentally end up flying to Tunis, Tunisia instead
“The moment we realized we were on the wrong flight and on our way to TUNIS, AFRICA and not NICE, FRANCE,” reads the caption of a video shared to Brittney Dzialo’s TikTok over the weekend.
In the video, one of the travelers is heard asking another passenger on the outgoing flight, “Nice? Is this going to Nice?” In response the passenger says, “Tunis, yeah. I thought you said ‘to Nice,’ Nice which is in France.”
“Tunis, yeah, in Tunisia,” the passenger continued. “North Africa, not in France.”
From there, the two are heard asking “Where’s Tunisia?” and “We’re going to Africa?” They ultimately consult a flight attendant, who also confirms they are indeed headed for Tunis, not to Nice.
In a later update, their mistake was attributed to an exchange with an airline employee during which the two were booked flights to Tunis, not to Nice.
“The whole plane witnessed our spiral and either found it entertaining or hated us,” Dzialo wrote.
Later, Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles” provided the soundtrack to the travelers touching down in Tunis.
Did the tourists ever make it to Nice, France?
Yes, in fact. As seen in a more recent TikTok update, this time soundtracked by Natasha Bedingfield’s “Unwritten,” Dzialo confirmed she and her friend had arrived in Nice after their well-documented woes.
What are people saying?
Plenty have responded to the viral saga by expressing outright disbelief at the mishap, while others have spoken out with more nuanced takes on the videos.
