UPDATED 8/6, 10:45 a.m. ET: Kamala Harris has confirmed Tuesday morning reports of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz having been selected as her VP running mate. In a statement, Harris, who herself is currently serving as VP in the Biden administration, said she was "proud" to have Walz joining the campaign.
"As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he's delivered for working families like his," Harris said. "It's great to have him on the team."
Walz has also shared a statement, calling this moment "the honor of a lifetime."

Kamala Harris has reportedly made her choice for VP, with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said to have been selected.
That was the word from The Source anchor Caitlin Collins and other CNN correspondents early Tuesday morning. For those following 2024 election developments closely, Walz should be familiar, with his name having recently been floated alongside Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro as true VP contenders.
The Harris campaign didn't immediately issue a statement on Tuesday.
Harris, of course, is currently serving in a VP capacity herself in the Biden administration. Amid growing criticism for him to step aside in favor of a new, then-undetermined Democratic nominee, Biden announced in July that he would indeed be dropping out of the race against Trump.
Shortly after, Harris became the presumptive nominee, saying in a statement later that same month that the upcoming presidential election "will present a clear choice between two different visions."
As a governor, Walz, 60, has been known to take a progressive stance on a number of issues, reproductive rights among them. In July, for example, Walz responded to Iowa’s abortion ban with a message of state-to-state comparison.
"In Minnesota, we take care of our neighbors. It’s just what we do," Walz said at the time. "As our neighbors in Iowa are stripped of their fundamental rights, my message is clear: Your reproductive freedom will remain protected in Minnesota."
Trump previously announced his VP pick, Hillbilly Elegy author JD Vance, last month.
