A man has been accused of impersonating an NBA agent and stealing $769,000 worth of earrings—and swallowing the jewelry while under arrest.

According to court documents filed by the Orlando Police Department, Jaythan Gilder walked into a Tiffany & Co. store inside the Mall at Millenia and told store employees that he was shopping for a player on the Orlando Magic.

Gilder was taken to a VIP showroom to look at expensive jewelry before he allegedly took a ring and earrings worth $769,000.

The man attempted to run out of the store, and court documents stated that one of the store employees tried to stop him but only managed to get him to drop the ring. Police then found Gilder, and while taking him into custody, he allegedly swallowed items that were believed to be from Tiffany & Co.

Authorities later claimed that a body scan at the jail showed that Gilder had a pair of earrings in his stomach. Police stated the items "will need to be collected [...] after they are passed through Gilder's system" to confirm they were earrings from the store.

Gilder was charged two felonies, including robbery with a mask and first degree grand theft. This apparently isn't the first time that Gilder has tried this specific crime. In 2022, he was accused of something similar at another Tiffany & Co. store in Texas.
