Costco members are being told to check their deli buys after the FDA flagged one of the warehouse’s Kirkland items for possible contamination.

On Saturday, September 20, the FDA published a recall from Western United Fish Company (Annasea Foods Group) covering 3,314.7 pounds of Kirkland Signature Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke. The issue? A supplier’s test found Listeria monocytogenes on green onions used in the ready-to-eat kit.

According to the CDC, eating food contaminated with Listeria can cause mild flu-like symptoms in some people, but the infection is far more dangerous for pregnant individuals, older adults, and anyone with weakened immune systems.

The product was packed on September 18 and sold the same day in Costco deli sections across 33 states, with a sell-by of September 22. That means if you picked one up this week, it could still be sitting in your fridge.

How to spot the recalled item

  • Item #: 17193

The company says “no illnesses have been reported to date.” Still, don’t take chances. If your container matches the label info above, do not eat it. Toss it out and get a full refund at Costco. For questions, Annasea Foods can be reached at (425) 558-7809 or info@annasea.com.

This isn’t the first time Costco shoppers have been told to toss food this year. In May, Fresh & Ready Foods recalled dozens of ready-to-eat sandwiches and snacks sold at Costco and other retailers across Arizona, California, Nevada, and Washington — also over Listeria concerns. And in September, Kirkland Signature Prosecco bottles were recalled across several Midwestern states after reports that even unopened bottles could shatter unexpectedly.
