An active shooter injured multiple victims at a church of Latter Day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan, according to police.

The LDS church was set on fire, police said.

"There’s has been an active shooter at the church of Latter Day Saints on McCandlish Rd," wrote the Grand Blanc Police Department on September 28.

"There are multiple victims and the shooter is down. There is NO threat to the public at this time," police added.

Horrific videos captured the massive blaze at the church.

"The church is actively on fire. For people on site, the reunification site is the pavilion to the north. Offsite reunification will be at Trillium theater at Holly and McCandlish. PLEASE AVOID THE AREA!!" wrote the police.

The suspect's motive and name were not yet clear. The condition of the victims and the exact number of them was also not yet clear.

Photos published by Michigan news outlets showed a plume of smoke rising into the air.

Fox2 Detroit reported through police sources that six to eight people were shot, but their conditions are not yet clear. The shooting unfolded at about 11 a.m., according to that television station.

The shooting in Michigan came just hours after another unrelated shooting at a waterfront restaurant in North Carolina, where a man on a boat was accused of opening fire on diners.

Sources told Fox2 Detroit that authorities believe the gunman started the church on fire, but that there is no longer a threat to the public because the shooter is deceased. It is not clear how the shooter ended up dead, however, or whether the shooter had any connection to the church.

The Detroit News reported that the FBI was joining local authorities at the scene of the mass shooting and that police were setting up a "reunification site" near the church in the wake of the tragedy.
